A First Visit to Remember: The Cigar Room’s 15‑Year Anniversary Event
Today we stepped into a celebration we never saw coming. The Cigar Room in Madison, Alabama was hosting its 15‑year anniversary event, and although we had never visited before, we imagined something small, maybe intimate—just a few tables, a couple of reps, a modest crowd. What we walked into was the exact opposite: a full‑scale festival bursting with energy, people, smoke, music, and more cigars than our senses could process at once.
Before We Even Walked Inside
The parking lot alone felt like its own event. Tents stretched across the pavement—one dedicated entirely to raffle prizes (and they had a lot), another for the Cigar Leaf Club, plus rows of tables and chairs for anyone wanting to smoke outside. A live band played under the Alabama sun, adding a soundtrack to the swirl of cigar smoke drifting through the air.
One of our first stops was a tent run by Brian—better known as Smitty—the man behind the upcoming Rocket City Cigar and Whiskey Festival coming in September 2026. He introduced us to Goza Añejo Tequila, which was smooth, rich, and unexpectedly delicious. Smitty had that easygoing, good‑guy vibe that makes you want to support whatever he’s building.

Stepping Into the Chaos (In the Best Way)
Inside the Cigar Room, the energy somehow intensified. The place was huge—far bigger than any cigar shop we’ve visited—with multiple humidor rooms, two large lounges, and what felt like a small army of cigar vendor reps. The aisles buzzed with people chasing deals, asking questions, sampling cigars, and celebrating the milestone.
And the deals were no joke: 25% off the entire store, plus vendor specials like buy five, get one, buy ten, get two, and plenty of swag. It was the kind of environment where your heart races a little—not from nicotine, but from the sheer frenzy of it all.
A Sweet Surprise: Discovering GTO Cigars
Among the many reps, one stood out: Dr. Oscar Rodriguez, the Owner of GTO Cigars. He caught me eyeing the Hypnotic Sweet Tip cigars—right up my alley as a newer smoker who loves a mild profile with a touch of sweetness. He offered us a Hypnotic Sweet Tip petite corona to enjoy on the spot and explained how the sweetness is naturally made.
He cut it, lit it, and from the first draw, we were hooked. Smooth, mellow, sweet—an instant favorite.
It was a brilliant move on his part, because of course we wanted more. We bought seven GTO cigars, and he generously added three more. Later we learned GTO is a boutique brand, which made the discovery feel even more special. In a sea of cigar reps, he managed to make his table—and his cigars—stand out.

Finding a Moment of Calm
With cigars in hand, we slipped into one of the lounges to regroup. The frenzy melted away as we settled into the leather chairs, letting the Hypnotic Sweet Tip center our minds. A rep from Olde Towne Coffee handed us a free bag of locally roasted ground coffee—another unexpected win.
We talked strategy. Our humidor at home is nearly full, so we had to be intentional. We reviewed our wish list, took a few more relaxing puffs, and then headed back into the storm.

Back Into the Store We Went
We hunted down the cigars we knew we wanted—CAO, Gurkha, Tatiana—while trying very hard not to get distracted by everything else calling our names. With 25% off, temptation was everywhere, but budget and humidor space kept us grounded.
Saving the Best for Last: Drew Estate
Our final stop was the Drew Estate corner—our comfort zone. We love their cigars, and they were the reason we even knew about the event (thanks to their website listing).
Chris, the Drew Estate rep, was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to help us expand our cigar journey. We picked up the Liga Privada No. 9 and Undercrown Maduro, then talked about where we’re headed as cigar smokers. He recommended two great “next‑step” cigars: Tabak Dulce and Deadwood Fat Bottom Betty.
Into the basket they went.
Because we bought ten Drew Estate cigars, Chris gifted us four more plus a Drew Estate Acid ashtray—a perfect addition to our growing collection, especially since we’re huge fans of the Acid Blue Blondie.
Raffle Time
With our bags full, we headed back outside to the raffle tent. The prizes were impressive—everything from accessories to a massive humidor to an actual golf cart. We didn’t win anything, but the excitement of possibility was fun on its own.
Final Thoughts
Walking into the Cigar Room’s 15‑year anniversary event felt like stepping into a world we’re still learning to navigate—bigger, louder, and more intense than we expected. But it was also welcoming, educational, and full of discoveries.
We expanded our palate, met great people, found new cigars to love, and got a taste of the local cigar community. For a first visit, it was unforgettable. And something tells me it won’t be our last.
