A BRIDGE BETWEEN BARRELS
The robust oak and toffee from this 2016 bourbon deftly marries with our hallmark Ruby Port characters. The addition of Tawny Port-finished bourbon provided the nutty, caramelized fruit character to act as a bridge between the two flavor profiles. By balancing the bright red berry acidity with the brooding sweetness of dried fruit, it introduced a fresh dimension to the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength series. The 13th Edition remains a coveted expression among collectors.

The nose is aromatic and gentle despite the proof, with vanilla fudge, salted caramel, cotton candy, and dried strawberries, balanced by oak, cedar closet, and earthiness. The big palate offers more vanilla, plus red berry, baked cherries, espresso, and a generous dash of pepper spice. The fruit and sweetness stand up to the heat nicely. The finish is medium-length, with similar flavors and a fair amount of oak influence.

Introduction
The inaugural year of our Sipping Room collection will always feel a little charmed — twenty bottles hunted down one by one, each with its own story, its own chase, its own moment of discovery. Angel’s Envy Cask Strength was one of those bottles we hoped would fall into our laps, and in a way, it did.
We were in Nashville, weaving through Total Wine with the familiar mission: find as many of Whisky Advocate’s Top 20 of 2024 as possible. The Rare Whisky cabinet glowed like a beacon, and there it was — Angel’s Envy Cask Strength, tucked behind glass, practically winking at us. Into the cart it went, a victory worth celebrating.
Only later did we realize we hadn’t snagged the 12th Edition from 2023 — the one that earned the #12 spot on the Top 20 list. Instead, we had the 13th Edition, the 2024 release, Batch C13. For a moment, disappointment flickered. But then we saw the rating: Whisky Advocate Score 92. At 59.4% ABV, this bottle still carries serious pedigree.
So here it sits in the Sipping Room — our not-quite-Top-20 bottle that still feels like it belongs in the story of our first-year collection. Unopened. Waiting. And destined for a blind tasting beside its non–cask strength sibling.

There’s something about finding a bottle behind glass that makes the whole experience feel elevated — like you’ve earned it. When I spotted the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength in Nashville, I felt that little jolt of triumph. It wasn’t the Top 20 edition, sure, but it was still a heavy hitter.
The 92 score gives me confidence that this bottle will deliver. I’m expecting richness, depth, and that signature Angel’s Envy port finish turned up to eleven. The blind tasting is going to be fun. My guess is that the cask strength will announce itself immediately, but I’m curious whether the port influence becomes more pronounced or more subtle at higher proof.
Either way, this bottle feels like a win. And it’s going to be a good night when we finally crack it open.

I remember the moment we saw it. Jeff’s eyes lit up, and I felt that familiar thrill of adding another meaningful bottle to our Sipping Room. Even when we realized it wasn’t the Top 20 edition, I didn’t feel let down for long. The 13th Edition has its own charm, its own story, and its own excellent rating.
What I love most is how this bottle represents the spirit of our inaugural collection: imperfect, serendipitous, and full of personality. We didn’t just collect the Top 20. We collected the journey. And this bottle is part of that journey.
I’m excited for the blind tasting. Angel’s Envy has always struck me as a bourbon with a romantic streak, and I’m curious how that romance behaves at cask strength. Will it be bold and dramatic? Or will it surprise us with elegance?
Either way, I’m ready.
