About This Spirit from the Whisky Advocate
Take two straight rye whiskeys from Indiana, one an 8 year old 95% rye, the other a 9 year old 51% rye, and finish them for 18 months in Amrut Indian single malt casks. Blend this with three Kentucky straight bourbons aged 10–14 years, and you have a vibrant blend of American whiskeys with aromas of roasted corn, nutmeg, allspice, and toasted oak, with chocolate chip, root beer, leather, and black cherry bubble gum. Sugared almonds, red berries, baking spices, ground pepper, and cinnamon segue into fruit tea, Red Vines, and herbal notes, with a mouth-filling finish of milk chocolate, malt, and oak char.

How We Feel About the Spirit
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Collaborative Series Amrut Straight Rye Whiskey: A Sipping Room Stunner at #4
Written by Nancy Fae for His, Hers & the Good Life
Introduction
The inaugural year of the Sipping Room will always feel a little legendary — our quest to collect Whisky Advocate’s Top 20 of 2024 became part treasure hunt, part obsession, and part love letter to the whiskies shaping today’s landscape. Nineteen bottles found their way home, each with its own story, its own chase, its own moment of serendipity.
And then came this one.
Bardstown Bourbon Co.’s Collaborative Series Amrut — Whisky Advocate Score 94, 55% ABV, and sitting proudly at #4 on the Top 20 list — wasn’t discovered in a glamorous tasting room or on a cross‑state pilgrimage. No, this one surprised us during a casual walk through our nearby ABC Store. There it was. Unassuming. Unbothered. Almost coy. Could it really be #4 just sitting on the shelf? It sure was.
We brought it home like a secret too good to keep. And though we haven’t opened it yet, we already know how we’ll meet it properly: a blind taste test, letting the rye speak for itself. Let’s see if we can taste what made it one of 2024’s most exciting whiskies.
His Take (Jeff)
There’s something about finding a top‑ranked bottle in an everyday store that feels like winning a small lottery. I remember stopping mid‑stride, doing that double‑take you do when your brain says, “No way,” but your eyes say, “Oh, absolutely.”
The Bardstown-Amrut collaboration already has a reputation for being bold, layered, and unapologetically itself. That’s my kind of pour. I’m expecting a rye that doesn’t whisper — one that steps forward with confidence. The 55% ABV tells me this bottle isn’t shy, and the #4 ranking tells me it earned its place.
I’m ready for this one. Blind taste test or not, I think it’ll stand out.
Her Take (Nancy Fae)
This bottle feels like a little wink from the universe. We weren’t hunting that day — we were strolling. And yet, there it was: a Top 20 gem waiting patiently for us to notice.
The Bardstown-Amrut collaboration intrigues me. There’s artistry in blending American and Indian whisky traditions, and Bardstown rarely misses when it comes to innovation. I’m expecting something warm, spice‑forward, maybe even a little exotic. A rye with personality.
But what I love most is that this bottle represents the spirit of our Sipping Room’s first year: discovery, curiosity, and the joy of finding something extraordinary in an ordinary moment.
Closing in the His, Hers & the Good Life Style
His (Jeff)
This bottle reminds me why I love the hunt. Sometimes the best finds aren’t behind glass cases or in specialty shops. They’re right there in your neighborhood, waiting for someone who knows what they’re looking at.
Her (Nancy Fae)
To me, this bottle is a reminder that the Good Life isn’t always planned. Sometimes it’s found on a quiet afternoon walk, tucked on a shelf, ready to become part of your story.
The Good Life
The Bardstown-Amrut Collaborative Series fits beautifully into our Good Life because it represents the magic of the unexpected. It’s a bottle that elevates the collection, honors our inaugural Top 20 journey, and promises a tasting experience worth savoring — one deliberate sip at a time.

How to Enjoy
Neat first. Let the rye open slowly; the 55% ABV deserves patience.
Blind tasting. Compare it against other Top 20 bottles to appreciate its ranking.
A drop of water. This will likely reveal deeper spice and sweetness.
Winter pour. The warmth and rye character should shine on a cool evening.
Shared moment. This bottle deserves company — friends who appreciate the story behind the pour.
