Joint Introduction
We stumbled upon BLACKLION Rare Sheep’s Milk Vodka the way we seem to find many of our favorite bottles — by wandering into a tasting at Total Wine in Nashville. Jeff, our daughter Ashley, and I met Joseph Clay, the brand ambassador, who welcomed us with the kind of warmth that makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into someone’s home rather than a busy aisle of a liquor store. He poured BLACKLION neat, then mixed cocktails with an ease that suggested he’d done this dance a thousand times. One sip turned into another, and before long, we were all leaning in — hooked by a vodka unlike anything we’d ever tasted.
His Take
I’ll be honest — Nancy Fae was the one who dragged us over. Sheep’s milk vodka? That sounded like a gimmick. And vodka is vodka, right? They all taste the same. So I hung back while she and Ashley chatted with Joseph and tried the cocktails. They were clearly enjoying themselves. Eventually, Joseph handed me a neat pour. I took a sip … and stopped. It was smooth — shockingly smooth — with this subtle sweetness at the end. I looked at Nancy Fae and said, “This is good.” And I meant it.
Her Take
I don’t remember exactly what Joseph said — something about sheep’s milk and vodka — but that was enough to grab my attention. I love the unusual, the unexpected, the “wait … what?” of the world. Joseph wasted no time mixing cocktails for Ashley and me. The first was the Nashville Diva — BLACKLION, lemon juice, raspberry syrup, simple syrup, topped with Prosecco. It was bright, elegant, and dangerously easy to drink. We tried more cocktails, collected recipes, and kept smiling. I noticed Jeff standing off to the side, uninterested — until he finally tried it neat and gave me that nod. The price point was higher than most vodkas, but the quality justified it. I loved it so much I even joked about wanting to help sell BLACKLION. Maybe not so crazy after all.
