About This Spirit from Breaking Bourbon

Blue Run Unveils Limited-Edition USA 250th Anniversary Commemorative Bourbon Packaging

[June 29, 2026] — Blue Run Spirits today announced the release of its USA 250th Anniversary Commemorative Packaging, a limited-edition presentation of Blue Run Kentucky Straight High Rye Bourbon Whiskey created to mark a significant historical milestone.

Designed as a celebration of American Independence, the commemorative bottle, featuring Blue Run's highly awarded High Rye Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, is as beautiful to enjoy in a glass or on the back bar. The USA 250th Anniversary bottle sets Blue Run’s modern design into a patriotic frame and features the brand’s signature Viceroy butterfly hand-applied in navy with white star accents, creating a distinctive focal point against the amber whiskey inside. A red-and-white striped tax strip adds a tailored closure atop the bottle’s elegant cut glass. The commemorative design is elevated by labels printed in 22K gold ink.

“This release was designed to recognize a once-in-a-generation American milestone with a bottle suited to the occasion,” said Susie McInerney, Sr. Marketing Manager, Blue Run Spirits. “From the star-accented butterfly to the 22K gold ink, every packaging detail was designed to feel intentional, collectible, and unmistakably Blue Run.”

Blue Run Kentucky Straight High Rye Bourbon Whiskey is a small-batch expression shaped through intentional blending and a distinctly higher rye content, delivering heat, depth, and refined smoothness at 111 proof. The commemorative release pairs this whiskey with a striking collector’s bottle designed to mark the country’s significant milestone.

How We Feel About the Spirit

Blue Run High Rye Bourbon 250th Anniversary: A Patriotic Pour for the Good Life

Written by Nancy Fae for His, Hers & the Good Life

Introduction

Some bottles don’t just catch your eye — they stop you mid‑stride. That’s exactly what happened in Total Wine Nashville, where the aisle lighting hit a flash of red, white, and blue just right. Ashley, our resident Blue Run hunter, locked onto the patriotic butterfly like it was calling her name. And honestly? It kind of was.

We brought the bottle home that night, cracked it open, and folded it into a blind tasting lineup. No ceremony, no waiting for a special occasion — just the three of us, a table full of whiskies, and the thrill of discovering something new. What we found inside that commemorative glass was a bourbon that felt both celebratory and grounded, familiar yet dressed for the milestone it honors.

His Take (Jeff)

I’ll admit it. My first reaction was, “Well, that’s a sharp-looking bottle.” Blue Run always nails the design, but this one? It’s got presence. The kind of bottle you’d put front and center on the shelf, not tucked away with the everyday drinkers.

On the nose, I got honey and toasted bread right away — warm, inviting, like walking past a bakery at sunrise. The oak and vanilla rolled in next, followed by a little orange and a hint of cinnamon. But the honey-roasted peanuts? That was the curveball. Didn’t expect it, but it made me smile.

The palate came in hotter — pepper, rye spice, tobacco, and cinnamon leading the charge. Then the fruit showed up: orange, cherry, even a cigar sweetness that reminded me of nights on the patio. Brown sugar and clove rounded it out, and the finish? Oily, lingering, the kind that makes you go back for another sip just to chase the memory.

It’s a bourbon with backbone. And I like backbone.

Her Take (Nancy Fae)

I’m still newer to the whiskey world. My palate is learning, stretching, discovering. I don’t always pick up every note Jeff does, and sometimes I second‑guess what I’m smelling or tasting. But Blue Run bottles have a way of making even a beginner feel invited, and this one — with its patriotic butterfly and celebratory design — felt like a warm welcome.

During our blind tasting, I found myself returning to it more than I expected. The nose felt gentle and approachable: honey, vanilla, toasted bread, and a soft orange brightness. The cinnamon was subtle enough that I wasn’t sure at first if I imagined it, but the honey‑roasted peanuts gave me something familiar to latch onto.

On the palate, the rye and pepper showed up boldly, but what I appreciated most was how the fruit softened the edges. The orange and cherry were easier for me to identify, weaving through the spice like little guideposts. The tobacco and cigar notes were new territory for me — interesting, a bit mysterious — but the brown sugar and clove brought me back to flavors I know well. The oily finish felt luxurious, even if I’m still learning what finishes mean and how to describe them.

This bottle made me feel like I’m getting better at this — one sip, one tasting, one shared moment at a time.

Closing in the His, Hers & the Good Life Style

His (Jeff)

This bottle hits the sweet spot between collectible and drinkable. It’s bold, patriotic, and built for people who appreciate a rye-forward bourbon with character. I’d buy it again without hesitation.

Her (Nancy Fae)

To me, this bottle is a memory in glass — Nashville, Ashley’s excitement, our blind tasting, and the warmth of discovering something worth savoring. It’s beautiful, flavorful, and meaningful, and it helped me grow my whiskey confidence.

The Good Life

The Good Life is built on shared moments, unexpected finds, and bottles that become part of our story. This Blue Run 250th Anniversary Edition fits right in — celebratory, intentional, and crafted to be enjoyed together. It’s a reminder that the best pours aren’t just tasted; they’re lived.

How to Enjoy

  • Neat: The oily finish and layered spice make this a rewarding slow sipper.

  • With a Drop of Water: Opens the fruit notes — especially the cherry and orange.

  • On a Large Cube: Softens the pepper and lets the brown sugar shine.

  • With a Cigar: The tobacco and cigar notes make it a natural pairing for a mild-to-medium smoke.

  • In a Cocktail: Ashley’s Southern Sunset — a citrus-forward, warm-spice cocktail — proved this bourbon can hold its own in a mixed drink without losing its identity.
