About This Spirit from the Maker

Casa Maestri presents: Doña Celia Tequila

Mexican Day of the Dead Catrina Dolls

Doña Celia Tequilas are hand painted ceramic bottles and come in Blanco, Reposado and Añejo expressions.

This artwork was created around 1910-1913 by José Guadalupe Posada in an etching called “La Calavera Catrina,” originally known as “La Calavera Garbancera.” She was created as a satirical image. Now we adapt Mexico's great folflore into a one of a kind Tequila Package, Dona Celia Tequila. Made out of ceramic and hand painted designs, this doll not only has a beautiful design but has a high quality 100% Agave Tequila to compliment inside.

The Fifty Best is very pleased to announce that Doña Celia Blanco Tequila was awarded Gold medal, scoring system with 5 being the highest.

How We Feel About the Spirit

Tita Doña Celia Tequila Blanco: A Haunting Beauty for the Shelf

Some bottles call to you long before you know anything about the tequila inside. That’s exactly what happened during our stroll through Total Wine in New Orleans, where a tiny ceramic figurine stopped me in my tracks.

🌺 A Chance Encounter in the Miniature Aisle

I wasn’t even looking for tequila at that moment. We were simply wandering, taking in the shelves, when a 100 ml bottle—nestled among the usual lineup of 50 ml “babies”—caught my eye.

It wasn’t the size that drew me in. It was the striking ceramic doll, dark and haunting, unmistakably inspired by Día de los Muertos.

Her painted face, her ornate dress, her presence—it all felt intentional, reverent, and beautifully eerie. And she wasn’t alone. Two other versions stood beside her, each equally captivating. I picked them up one by one, turning them over in my hands, already imagining how they’d look on my tequila shelf.

I was this close to dropping at least one into my cart.

But I resisted. Barely.

💀 The Moment My Heart Skipped a Beat

We continued our slow wander through the store, but those little dolls stayed with me. Their silhouettes lingered in the back of my mind as we made our way toward the tequila aisle.

And then—there they were again. But bigger.

The full 750 ml versions, standing tall and magnificent, like the queens of the aisle.

My heart genuinely skipped. I rushed back to the minis to compare them, holding the small and large versions side by side. The artistry was even more impressive up close—hand-painted ceramic, bold colors, and that unmistakable Day of the Dead expression.

At that point, resistance was futile.

🎨 Art First, Tequila Second

I’ll admit it: I didn’t even know who made the tequila. I was completely entranced by the figurines themselves. The craftsmanship, the symbolism, the cultural homage—it all spoke to me long before I ever looked at the label.

Thankfully, when I finally did, I breathed a sigh of relief.

These bottles come from Casa Maestri, a distillery with a solid reputation and a long history of producing quality tequila. Their Doña Celia line—including this Tita Doña Celia Tequila Blanco—celebrates iconic elements of Mexican culture.

Even without opening the bottle, the artistry alone tells a story.

🕯️ A Collector’s Treasure

In the end, I chose a matching set: one 100 ml doll and one 750 ml doll—my own little pairing of beauty and presence.

They now sit proudly on my tequila shelf, adding a touch of mystery and celebration to the collection. I don’t plan on opening them. For me, these bottles are less about tasting notes and more about cultural expression, craftsmanship, and the joy of discovering something unexpected on an ordinary day.

Sometimes the story behind a bottle is the pour.

And this one is perfect just as it is—unopened, admired, and deeply appreciated.
