Details
Chocolate fudge cake undercut with clove and cardamom, with hints of plum jam and redcurrant jelly, then rich cherry, toffee and oak, finished with raisin, honey and brown sugar.
Process
Powerful, rich whiskies matured in American Oak sherry butts, precisely seasoned for a very particular wood interaction that creates a spiciness and generous intensity from the oloroso influence.
Flavour

One of the “core four” labels in Compass Box’s new lineup, along with Orchard House, Nectarosity, and The Peat Monster. Oloroso sherry casks play the starring role here, with two-thirds of the blend being oloroso-finished, creating deep color, sweetness, and a smooth texture. But it’s more subtle than just a sherry bomb, as there’s a lot going on: cinnamon spice and marzipan sweetness, creamy texture, layered flavors, and a long finish offering crème brûlée, baked red berries, brandy flambéed apricot, and more.

Introduction
The inaugural year of our Sipping Room has been defined by the chase — nineteen bottles from Whisky Advocate’s Top 20 of 2024 now lined up like a proud parade of our persistence. Some were easy finds. Some required patience. And then there was Compass Box Crimson Casks, #15 on the list, a bottle that made us work for it.
Months of checking our local shops. Months of refreshing trusted online retailers. Months of learning — sometimes the hard way — that many places simply won’t ship to Alabama. But eventually, SoCal Wine & Spirits came through, sending this 93‑point, 46% ABV Blended Malt Scotch Whisky straight to our doorstep.
We haven’t opened it yet. That’s part of the ritual now. The anticipation. The lineup. The blind tasting plans. Crimson Casks will join other Single Malt Scotch whiskies in a future flight, where we’ll see if we can pick out what earned it its place among the Top 20.
For now, the bottle sits in the Sipping Room, a reminder that some treasures arrive only after a little stubbornness — and a lot of refreshing browser tabs.

Crimson Casks feels like one of those bottles that rewards the hunter as much as the drinker. I remember the moment we finally found it online — half excitement, half disbelief that someone would actually ship to Alabama. It became a small victory in the bigger mission of completing the Top 20.
Compass Box always catches my eye because they don’t play it safe. They blend with intention, they experiment, and they seem to enjoy surprising people. Even without opening it, the bottle has that Compass Box confidence—bold label, bold promise.
I’m looking forward to the blind tasting. I want to see if I can pick out the Compass Box fingerprint without knowing which glass is theirs. And I’m curious whether the “crimson” influence will show up in a way I can actually detect. Blind tastings have a way of humbling me, but they’re also the most fun.
For now, this bottle feels like a trophy from the hunt. A reminder that persistence pays off — and that Alabama’s shipping laws do not.

Crimson Casks is one of those bottles that feels like it already has a story before we’ve even poured a drop. I love that about the Sipping Room — every bottle has a memory attached to it. This one’s memory is the search.
I kept thinking, How is #15 the one giving us trouble? But that’s how inaugural years go. You learn the terrain. You learn the quirks. You learn which retailers ship where. And you learn that sometimes the bottle you want is sitting quietly in California waiting for you to find it.
Compass Box has always appealed to me because they’re storytellers. Their labels, their blends, their philosophy — it all feels intentional. Crimson Casks looks dramatic on the shelf, like it’s wearing a velvet cloak. I’m excited to see how it performs in a blind tasting. Will it stand out? Will it whisper? Will it surprise me?
Whatever happens, this bottle already feels like part of our Good Life story. It represents the joy of the hunt, the thrill of the find, and the satisfaction of adding another chapter to our Sipping Room collection.
