Joint Introduction
Some wines introduce themselves with a whisper. Gold Rush strutted in with a grin, a little swagger, and the kind of jammy sweetness that makes you pause mid‑sip and say, “Well hello there.”
We first met this California Red during our June 2026 Cooper’s Hawk monthly tasting, with Ashley joining us for the evening. One sip in, and all three of us looked at each other with that oh yes, this is going home with us expression. It was lush, fruit‑forward, and instantly steak‑worthy.
But the real magic happened later that evening at the Cooper’s Hawk Gold Rush–themed member dinner, where the wine took center stage. Paired with the “Struck It Rich” Steak & Potatoes — grilled boneless strip steak, golden fingerling potato & cheddar hash, grilled asparagus, and those addictive tobacco onion strings. The Gold Rush absolutely sang. It was one of those pairings that makes you close your eyes for a second longer than necessary.

And then, as if the night needed a final flourish, Ashley won one of the event games and walked away with a bottle of Gold Rush as her prize. We were thrilled because nothing tastes better than a wine that comes with a story.

His Take
Gold Rush hits me right where I like a red to land — bold fruit, smooth finish, and just enough sweetness to keep things interesting without going overboard. When we tried it at the tasting, my first thought was, This is going to be dangerous with a ribeye.
At the member dinner, that pairing proved itself. The steak was already fantastic, but the wine brought out this deep, rich warmth that made every bite feel like a celebration. I’m already planning the night we open our bottle: cast‑iron steak, butter basting, maybe even those crispy onion strings if I’m feeling ambitious.
This is the kind of wine that makes you want to slow down and savor the moment.
Her Take
