How We Feel About the Spirit
El Tesoro® Mundial Collection: Laphroaig® Edition — A Meeting of Fire, Sea, and Agave
Some bottles enter our Sipping Room quietly. Others arrive with a presence so striking that even before the cork is pulled, you know you’re holding something rare. Our latest addition—El Tesoro® Mundial Collection: Laphroaig® Edition—belongs firmly in the latter category.
We received this bottle through our bimonthly PourMore Tequila Enthusiast subscription, one of those delightful surprises that reminds us why we love curated spirits experiences. Every so often, a bottle arrives that feels like a story waiting to be told. This one? It feels like a collaboration between worlds.
🌊🔥 A Fusion of Traditions
El Tesoro’s Mundial Collection celebrates partnerships with iconic distilleries around the globe, and this edition is a standout. Master Distiller Carlos Camarena took El Tesoro Añejo and aged it for 12 months in genuine Laphroaig 10-Year-Old Scotch Whisky casks—a bold choice that bridges the Highlands of Jalisco with the windswept shores of Islay.
Laphroaig is known for its unmistakable peat smoke, brine, and medicinal character. Pairing that with the warm, cooked agave sweetness of El Tesoro Añejo creates a promise of contrast and harmony—an interplay of earth, sea, and fire.
We haven’t opened our bottle yet, but imagining the experience is half the joy.
✨ Why We’re Waiting to Open It
Part of our collecting ritual is savoring the anticipation. Some bottles are meant to be enjoyed immediately; others ask for patience. This one feels like a moment bottle—something to open when the evening is quiet, the company is right, and the story behind the pour can be appreciated.
Until then, it sits proudly in our Sipping Room, a symbol of craftsmanship, collaboration, and the beauty of unexpected pairings.
🪵🌬️ A Bottle That Bridges Worlds
What makes this bottle special isn’t just the limited-edition status or the unique cask finish. It’s the way it represents two traditions—Mexican tequila artistry and Scottish whisky heritage—coming together to create something neither could achieve alone.
It’s a reminder that great spirits aren’t just made; they’re crafted with intention, history, and a willingness to experiment.
And when we finally open it, we expect a pour that’s as bold and distinctive as the journey that brought it to our shelf.

The Ritual of the Pour
Some bottles ask to be opened casually. This is not one of them. When the moment finally arrives to open our El Tesoro® Mundial Collection: Laphroaig® Edition, we already know the ritual we’ll follow — a small ceremony that honors both the craftsmanship behind the bottle and the journey it took to reach our shelf.
Setting the Scene
We’ll choose a quiet evening, the kind where the house has settled and the world feels unhurried. Soft lighting, maybe a favorite playlist humming in the background — something reflective, something warm. This is a pour that deserves presence.
Choosing the Glass
We’ll reach for our trusted Glencairns. Their shape lets the aromas rise slowly, giving the peat and agave room to introduce themselves before the first sip. It’s the same glass we use for milestone bottles, a subtle nod to the significance of this moment.
The First Nose
Before tasting, we’ll take a long, unhurried inhale. This is where the worlds of Jalisco and Islay first meet — the cooked agave, the maritime smoke, the citrus and spice. We’ll let the aroma settle, letting our senses adjust to the unexpected harmony.
The First Sip
As with every special bottle, we’ll begin neat. A small sip, held for a moment, letting the warmth spread and the flavors unfold. No rush. No distractions. Just the tequila, the cask, and the story they tell together.
A Splash of Water
After a few sips, we’ll add a single drop of water — a ritual we’ve come to love. It’s a way of asking the spirit to reveal something new. With a bottle like this, we expect the peat to soften, the agave to bloom, and the oak to stretch its legs.
Reflection
We’ll talk about what we taste, what surprises us, what memories or places the flavors evoke. That’s part of the joy — not just the pour itself, but the conversation it inspires.
Closing the Ritual
When the glasses are empty, we’ll return the bottle to its place in the Sipping Room. Not hidden, not tucked away — displayed with intention, a reminder of the night we finally opened it and the story it added to our collection.
