There are bottles we chase, bottles we savor, and bottles we pick up because a trusted voice nudges us in their direction. For us, that trusted voice was Fred Minnick. He’s praised Evan Williams White Label Bottled‑in‑Bond often enough that eventually curiosity wins, even when your palate already leans toward Four Roses or Elijah Craig.
So we brought home the White Label from our go‑to Total Wine in Nashville, poured it, nosed it, sipped it, debated it, and—naturally—turned it into a His, Hers & the Good Life moment.
His Take (Jeff)
I’ll give Evan Williams White Label this: it shows up with confidence. The nose is classic bourbon comfort — vanilla caramel, honey, cinnamon — like it’s trying to shake your hand and say, “See? I’m friendly.”
Then the palate hits, and that friendliness turns into a bit of a chest-thump. For a 100-proof bottled-in-bond bourbon, I expected structure, but the heat comes in louder than the sweetness. The corn does its job, but the finish leans bitter and astringent, almost like it’s trying to prove something.
Is it the bourbon I’d reach for when I want to sit back and appreciate the craft? No. But for under twenty bucks, it’s a respectable workhorse. If you’re stocking a bar for Old Fashioneds or need a dependable mixer, this bottle earns its shelf space. Still, if I’m spending my own money, I’m walking a few feet over to Four Roses or Elijah Craig every time.

I’m still learning how to taste whiskey, so I always come at these bottles with curiosity instead of expectation. The nose on this one is lovely — warm, sweet, cozy. Vanilla caramel and honey are right in my comfort zone, and the cinnamon gives it a little personality.
But once I sip it, the heat jumps out faster than I expected. It’s not unpleasant, just louder than the nose suggests. I get the sweetness from the corn, but the finish loses me a bit with that bitter, almost drying aftertaste.
Is it terrible? No. Is it my favorite? Also no. For the price, it’s fine, but I’d rather spend a little more and get something smoother, richer, and more balanced. And if I’m making an Old Fashioned, I’m reaching for a better bourbon or rye. Life’s too short for cocktails that taste “just okay.”

Ingredients
2 oz. Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond
½ oz. Orange Juice
½ oz. Lemon Juice
½ oz. Simple Syrup
1 Egg White
Angostura Bitters
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a shaker.
Shake together to mix and then add ice and shake again until frothy.
Strain and serve in a coupe glass.
