How We Feel About the Spirit

Four Roses Small Batch – A Step Up Worth Waiting For

A His & Hers Perspective

Some bottles earn their place in the Sipping Room not because they’ve been opened, but because they represent a promise. Four Roses Small Batch is one of those bottles—sitting confidently on the shelf as the natural next step above the dependable, cocktail‑friendly Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey we already know and love. This one feels like the older sibling: a little more refined, a little more intentional, and absolutely worth saving for the right moment.

His Take

There’s something about Four Roses Small Batch that just looks like it knows what it’s doing. The regular Four Roses is my go‑to workhorse—reliable in an Old Fashioned, easy to sip neat, and never fussy. But the Small Batch? This one feels like it’s got a bit more swagger.

Even unopened, the bottle carries a quiet confidence. You can tell it’s blended with purpose—four of their ten recipes coming together to create something richer, deeper, and more layered than the standard expression. I haven’t cracked it yet, but I already imagine the profile leaning into warm spice, soft fruit, and a little more maturity. The kind of bourbon you pour when you want to slow down and actually pay attention.

For now, it stays sealed. Not because we’re saving it for a special occasion, but because anticipation is half the fun. It’s the bottle I glance at when I’m deciding what to pour, thinking, “Not tonight… but soon.”

Her Take

I love that this bottle feels like a natural progression in our bourbon journey—like we’ve graduated from the everyday pour to something with a bit more story behind it. The regular Four Roses has been such a dependable staple for cocktails, especially when I want something approachable and smooth. But the Small Batch? It feels like the elevated version of a familiar friend.

I haven’t tasted it yet, but I already appreciate what it represents in our collection: a step up, a little more craftsmanship, a little more intention. The kind of bottle you don’t rush into. I imagine it being sweeter, rounder, maybe even a touch more elegant than the standard bottle. Something I’ll want to sip neat first, just to understand its personality before deciding how it fits into our Sipping Room rituals.

For now, I’m perfectly content letting it sit on the shelf—waiting for the right evening, the right mood, the right moment when curiosity wins out over patience.

Our Joint Thoughts

Four Roses Small Batch isn’t just another bottle on the shelf. It’s a marker of where we are in our bourbon journey—past the basics, exploring the nuances, and learning to appreciate the artistry behind the blends.

We bought it as a step up from the regular Four Roses, and even unopened, it already feels like it’s delivering on that promise. Some bottles are meant to be opened right away. Others are meant to be admired for a while, letting the anticipation build until the moment feels just right.

This one? It’s waiting patiently. And when we finally do open it, we know it’ll be a shared moment—another chapter in His, Hers & the Good Life.
