Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 Years Old
Bourbon & Sweet White Wine Casks
ABV: 46.0% | Volume: 75cl
Inspired by his memory of entering a French pastry shop, Dr Bill Lumsden first brought a whisky of dessert-like complexity to life in Glenmorangie The Nectar D’Or. Now, he has taken its swirls of sweet scents and spice to new heights of deliciousness, in our award-winning Glenmorangie The Nectar. Aged longer, for 16 years, in an enhanced combination of bourbon and sweet white wine casks, this new whisky is even more sumptuous and complex.
For extra depth and creaminess, silky Glenmorangie aged for 14 years in bourbon casks was selected. The whisky was then finished for two more years in a new combination of sweet white wine casks.
Sauternes and Monbazillac casks from France bring sumptuous notes of pastry, brioche, meringue and baked apples. Moscatel casks from Spain offer sweet, syrupy dessert-like notes. And Tokaji casks from Hungary, add white chocolate, almond and honeycomb flavours to their creation.
THE TASTING NOTES
COLOUR
Bronze Gold
AROMA
Rich and heady, almost decadent, with notes of baking brioche, leesy wine, baked apricot, vanilla pudding, toasted almond and chestnuts and hints of chocolate truffles.
With water, there is a burst of candy sweetness, touches of orange syrup, a flinty minerality, and a curious, distinctive herbal top note, like sage or basil.
TASTE
The texture is unctuous and sticky, but with a balancing lemon zestiness. This leads into rich, sweet flavours of vanilla crème anglaise, baked apricots, warm raisin bread, roasting chestnuts, and a mixture of spices, particularly nutmeg and star anise. The oaky backbone lasts throughout the taste, but is always balanced by sweet, fruity and spicy notes.
FINISH
The finish is long and lingering, with some lemon rind, baking bread and a touch of honeycomb.

The former Glenmorangie Nectar d’Or 12 year old has been reimagined into The Nectar, which features 4 additional years of aging and a far more complex finishing process, done with a combination of sauternes, monbazillac, muscatel, and tokaji casks. The result is spectacular—the nose is awash in aromas of ripe apricot, juicy peach, lemon-coated apple, and Nilla wafer, while the palate reveals more apricot, then orange scone, honey, a crack of peppery spice, and buttered toast. Warm baking spice also joins the party, coating the mouth in cinnamon French toast and sliced almond, making for an elegant and balanced dram. —Julia Higgins

Introduction
Some bottles arrive in your life with a story already attached — earned through patience, persistence, and just a touch of obsession. Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 Year Old is exactly that bottle for us. As the inaugural year of our Sipping Room unfolded, we chased down every member of Whisky Advocate’s Top 20 of 2024, determined to build a collection worthy of the journey.
But this one … this one made us work for it.
For nearly a year, we scanned shelves and scrolled listings, only to be fooled again and again by its predecessor, Nectar D’Or—similar box, similar bottle, similar heartbreak. Each time we thought we’d finally found #8, we were met with disappointment. Eventually, with only a handful of bottles left to complete the Top 20, we turned to the secondary market and paid a little extra to secure our prize.
Now Glenmorangie The Nectar — Score 94, ABV 46% — sits proudly in our Sipping Room, unopened, waiting for its moment. And when that moment comes, we’ll taste it blind alongside Nectar D’Or, eager to discover what sweet white wine casks bring to a whisky that earned its place among the best of 2024.

There’s something satisfying about finally tracking down a bottle that’s eluded you for months. Glenmorangie The Nectar became my personal white whale — every store visit, every online search, every “new arrival” email had me hoping this was the day.
When we finally secured it, I felt that collector’s thrill: the kind that says the hunt mattered just as much as the prize. I’m especially curious to see how the sweet white wine finish plays out. Glenmorangie tends to deliver elegance, but this one promises something richer, deeper, maybe even decadent.
The blind taste test with Nectar D’Or is going to be fun. I want to see if I can pick out what made this bottle #8 of 2024. And I’m ready to be surprised.

This bottle feels like a milestone — one that marks how far our Sipping Room has come since we first decided to collect the Top 20 of 2024. Glenmorangie The Nectar was the one that kept slipping through our fingers, teasing us with its lookalike predecessor and reminding us that good things sometimes require a little extra effort.
I’m drawn to the promise of sweetness. Fruit-forward Scotch profiles are my weakness, and the idea of a finish influenced by sweet white wine casks has me intrigued. I want to see if it leans into honeyed warmth, orchard fruit, or something more delicate.
We haven’t opened it yet, but when we do, I’m hoping it’s the kind of pour that feels like a reward — not just for the hunt, but for the joy of building something meaningful together.

How to Enjoy
When we finally open Glenmorangie The Nectar, we’ll enjoy it the way we enjoy all special bottles in the Sipping Room—slowly, intentionally, and together.
We’ll start with a blind taste test beside Nectar D’Or, letting our palates decide what sets the 16-year expression apart. We’ll taste it neat first, giving those sweet white wine cask notes room to shine. Then we’ll add a drop of water to coax out deeper layers.
And because we both love the way a couple of large ice cubes soften and stretch a sweeter Scotch, we’ll absolutely try it that way too. The slow melt tends to bring forward honeyed warmth and fruit-forward elegance—right in our wheelhouse.
This bottle has earned a moment, and we plan to give it one.
