Jack Daniel’s Distillery Tour: A Tennessee Whiskey Trail Must‑Do

Written by Nancy Fae for His, Hers & the Good Life

Introduction

Some summer days feel like they’re stitched together just for you — sunlight that behaves, temperatures that don’t bully, and a family adventure that lands exactly where your curiosity has been wandering. For us, that place was Lynchburg, Tennessee, home of the legendary Jack Daniel’s Distillery and a key stop on our ongoing Tennessee Whiskey Trail journey.

Jeff, Ashley, and I booked the Jack Daniel’s Distillery Tour with the kind of anticipation usually reserved for holidays and rare bottles. The weather cooperated beautifully, the walking was easy, and our guide, Matt, delivered the perfect blend of humor, history, and hospitality. We learned, we laughed, we tasted, and we walked away with a deeper respect for the craft, the people, and the legacy behind every bottle bearing Jack’s name.

His Take (Jeff)

There’s something about stepping onto the grounds of a place you’ve only ever known through a label. I’ve poured Jack Daniel’s plenty of times, but walking the property — seeing the Cave Spring Hollow, the barrel houses, the charcoal mellowing process — gave me a whole new appreciation for what’s in the glass.

Matt was the kind of guide you hope for: sharp, funny, and clearly proud of the work happening there. I loved learning about Nearest Green and how his mentorship shaped Jack’s entire approach to whiskey. That story alone made the tour worth it.

The tastings were a highlight. The Jack & Coke slushy hit the spot on a warm day, and the formal tasting lineup was impressive. Old No. 7, Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel Select, Barrel Proof Rye, Blackberry, Apple — each pour had its own personality. After the tour, the bar experience took things up a notch. The Triple Mash was a standout for me, and that “Bee Sting” cocktail — Fire and Honey blended together — was dangerously good.

I walked away with a deeper respect for the brand and a mental note to come back again.

Her Take (Nancy Fae)

There’s a particular joy in watching history come alive — not in textbooks, but in the places where it was lived. The Jack Daniel’s Distillery is one of those places. The air feels different there, like it’s carrying stories.

I loved learning about Nearest Green — how his expertise shaped Jack’s early years and how his legacy continues through generations of his family still working at the distillery. It’s a story that deserves to be told loudly and often.

The Cave Spring Hollow fascinated me. The idea that every single bottle of Jack Daniel’s ever made has been touched by that spring water feels almost mythical. And discovering that Jack technically qualifies as bourbon but chooses to honor the Tennessee Whiskey process? That’s commitment.

My Blackberry & Lemonade slushy was refreshing and bright, and the formal tasting was such a treat. I enjoyed comparing the expressions — how the Single Barrel Select carried itself versus the Gentleman Jack’s smoothness. The flavored bottles were fun, too; Blackberry surprised me with how much I liked it.

The bar afterward was the perfect finale. The bartender’s creativity, the additional lineup, and that Bee Sting cocktail made the experience feel complete. It was one of those days that settles into your memory with a smile.

His (Jeff)

This tour checked every box — history, craftsmanship, great whiskey, and a guide who made the experience memorable. It’s a must‑visit for anyone who appreciates the story behind the bottle.

Her (Nancy Fae)

Jack Daniel’s isn’t just a distillery; it’s a living narrative of tradition, innovation, and people who care deeply about their craft. I left inspired, refreshed, and already planning our next Tennessee Whiskey Trail stop.

The Good Life

Days like this remind us why we chase experiences — not just bottles. Good company, good stories, good whiskey. That’s the Good Life.
