Some bottles arrive in the Sipping Room because we hunted them down. Others simply found us, and this Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye is one of those serendipitous treasures.
I spotted it at the Class Six on Redstone Arsenal while picking up a Jack Barrel Select Bourbon as a thank‑you gift for a friend. And there it was — this handsome Single Barrel Rye — standing right beside it like it knew exactly what it was doing. I paused, thinking, How could I buy something for another guy without bringing home a goodie for my guy? Jeff is a Rye Guy through and through, and this bottle practically insisted on coming home with us.
Into the cart it went.
Into the Sipping Room it came.
And now it sits proudly—regal, weighty, and full of promise — waiting for its moment. We haven’t opened it yet, but we will. Likely in a blind tasting with other ryes or maybe even other Jack bottles. For now, it’s the quiet monarch of the shelf, holding court until we’re ready.

There’s something about a Single Barrel that always gets my attention. This one looks like it means business — square‑shouldered, confident, and unapologetically rye. Even before opening it, I can tell it’s going to lean into that grain-forward swagger Jack’s been talking about. I’m expecting spice, depth, and a finish that doesn’t rush off. It’s the kind of bottle that makes you want to sit down, slow down, and let it speak.

When we finally open this bottle, we’ll give it the respect a Single Barrel Rye deserves. This is a whiskey built for savoring, not hiding — so it shines best neat, with a single ice cube, or in a slow, contemplative pour where the rye grain bill can stretch its legs.
But can it play in cocktails?
Yes — selectively.
This rye’s bold, grain-forward character makes it a beautiful anchor for classic whiskey cocktails, especially those that celebrate spice, oak, and structure. It’s not a “mix‑with‑anything” rye, but it absolutely deserves a cocktail crafted with intention.
