About This Spirit from the Maker

ELEMENTS 2.0

Elements 2.0 is a bold, non-chill filtered whisky showing the flavour impact of an extended fermentation process. The result is fruity and smoky, with notes of stewed green apples, zesty orange peel and smoky peat.

Awarded Whisky of the Year 2024, by the Whisky Advocate.

Tasting Notes

  • Colour: Bold, pale gold

  • Nose: Fruity and subtly coastal. Stewed apples, vanilla custard and zesty orange peel with subtle peaty notes.

  • Palate: Fruity, sweet and salty. Green apples and runny honey with cream soda and soft peatiness of a smouldering bonfire and smoked seafood.

  • Finish: Sweet with an increasingly warming smokiness to finish.

You know we don’t like to follow the crowd, so rather than focus entirely on cask finishes or different styles to bring out, the Elements Series allows us to explore how we can engineer different flavours.

Distilled during a particularly frosty January, Elements 2.0 takes fermentation beyond our standard of 55 hours and experimented with of a range of longer fermentations, all the way up to 115 hours.

The effect of this longer fermentation period is an intensity of flavour. After around 65 hours, a secondary fermentation begins to kick in inside the washback and this reintroduces some more tropical flavours, while retaining the classic Laphroaig character we all know and love.

Your first taste of 2.0 will bring those strong flavours together as well as more smoke, gooseberries, with some nuttiness and vanilla. At the end, you get lingering red berries and a powerful, long smoky finish.

Introducing Laphroaig Elements 2.0

Following the sell-out success of Laphroaig Elements 1.0, we’re excited to reveal Elements 2.0. This time around our clever distillery team went beyond the traditional approach to distillation to explore interesting and unusual ways to experiment with how Laphroaig is made. For this second edition, they looked at the impact of disrupting our usual 55-hour fermentation process to uncover different aspects of Laphroaig’s bold character.

Whisky of the Year

Elements 2.0 has been named Whisky of the Year by Whisky Advocate, the leading whisky magazine in North America. This recognises the uncompromising craftmanship that goes into making the iconic Laphroaig whisky we all know and love.

The second release in our exploratory Series that challenges the boundaries of whisky making.

Starting life during a frosty January, the experimentation included several longer fermentations ranging up to almost five full days in the tun – a total of 115 hours. The tun was specially aerated to maintain mash conditions, much like practices of the past; a process that helps emphasise the fruitier notes of Laphroaig while maintaining its unmistakable smoky character.

With our standard fermentation around 55 hours in the washback, this spirit pushed the boundaries with up to 115 hours in the fermentation process. By extending the time, a secondary fermentation begins to happen inside the washback. This means more tropical, fruity flavours alongside the smoky signature.

You know we don’t like to follow the crowd, so rather than focus entirely on cask finishes or different styles to bring out, the Elements Series allows us to explore how we can engineer different flavours. With Elements 1.0, the team changed the combinations of semi-cloudy and cloudy wort, the sizes of the mash tuns, and the use of two varieties of barley malted and kilned in early autumn, all to see what impact it would have on flavour. And think it’s fair to say, it was a success.

This non-chill filtered whisky of a bold, pale gold colour captures with rich peat smoke, crisp green apple, and a warmth of ginger on the nose. Big, bold, and intense flavours sit together in harmony giving the whisky a surprisingly gentle feel.

Your first taste of Elements 2.0 will bring those unmistakable flavours together as well as more smoke, gooseberries, with some nuttiness and vanilla. At the end, you get lingering red berries and a powerful, long smoky finish.

Each of the releases of Laphroaig Elements showcase different experiments in the distillation process to show diversity and the skill of our distillery team. This Series is designed to allow them to experiment to see what can be achieved in terms of flavour, and for them to have some fun while they are at it!

We know you’re going to love Elements 2.0 and we can’t wait to share what is next in this rule-breaking Series. Watch this space…

How We Feel About the Spirit

Laphroaig Elements 2.0: The Smoky Crown Jewel of Our Inaugural Sipping Room Collection

Written by Nancy Fae for His, Hers & the Good Life

Introduction

When we set out to collect Whisky Advocate’s Top 20 of 2024, we weren’t just hunting bottles — we were building the inaugural year of our Sipping Room. Every pour, every shared moment, every bottle on the shelf became part of the story we were writing together. And among those bottles, one stood out immediately: Laphroaig Elements 2.0 Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

With a Whisky Advocate score of 95 and a bold ABV of 59.6%, this limited‑edition Islay powerhouse didn’t simply join our collection; it announced itself with smoke, swagger, and unmistakable Laphroaig attitude. We’ve shared it with friends and family during long evenings, awarding pours to those who stayed deep into the night — our unofficial “you made it to the end” prize from the #1 bottle of 2024.

Most people enjoyed it. Many were stunned. And overwhelmingly, they agreed: this whisky is so smoky it feels like you’ve just stepped out of a cigarette break. But that’s the beauty of Laphroaig — its honesty, its intensity, and its refusal to be anything but itself.

In our Sipping Room, that kind of authenticity earns a permanent place.

His Take (Jeff)

Laphroaig Elements 2.0 hits like a campfire on a windy night — direct, unapologetic, and full of character. The peat is front and center, thick and smoky, the kind of smoke that clings to your memory long after the glass is empty. At 59.6% ABV, it carries a punch, but it’s a controlled one, layered with sweetness and earthiness that reward anyone willing to sit with it.

Sharing this bottle has become one of my favorite Sipping Room traditions. Watching friends brace themselves, sip, then either grin or cough has become part of the fun. It’s not a casual pour; it’s a challenge. And when a whisky challenges you, it becomes something you remember.

This bottle reminds me why I love Scotch: it’s bold, it’s different, and it’s worth talking about.

Her Take (Nancy Fae)

Elements 2.0 is a storyteller, and its story begins with smoke — thick, swirling, unmistakably Islay. One sip and suddenly you’re standing on a rugged coastline, wrapped in sea spray and peat fire. It’s dramatic, theatrical, and absolutely unforgettable.

I love how this bottle has become a rite of passage in our Sipping Room. When someone asks for “the smoky one,” I know exactly what they’re about to experience. And when they finish their pour — eyes wide, nose tingling, maybe fanning the air, I can’t help but laugh. It’s a whisky that leaves a mark.

But beneath the theatrics, there’s intention. Craft. Balance. A complexity that rewards those who appreciate bold flavors. That’s why it belongs in our inaugural collection — and why it continues to shine.

Closing in the His, Hers & the Good Life Style

His (Jeff)

This bottle is a reminder that great whisky doesn’t have to be easy. Elements 2.0 is bold, smoky, and unforgettable — exactly the kind of bottle that makes the Sipping Room feel alive.

Her (Nancy Fae)

For me, this whisky represents the joy of sharing experiences — especially the intense ones. Watching friends react to its smoke has become part of our Sipping Room lore. It’s a bottle that brings people together through its personality.

The Good Life

The Good Life is built on moments worth remembering. Laphroaig Elements 2.0 creates those moments effortlessly. It’s dramatic, distinctive, and proudly itself — just like the best nights in our Sipping Room.
