Our Experience

M by Macanudo Espresso Cream — A Delicious Flavor Wrapped in a Learning Experience

The M by Macanudo Espresso Cream was my fourth cigar, but as someone still very new to this world, every smoke feels like a fresh lesson. This one, in particular, reminded me that cigars aren’t just about flavor—they’re about construction, humidity, technique, and patience.

One of the first things that caught my eye was the dual‑wrapper barber‑pole design, a beautiful twist of Maduro and Natural leaf spiraling together. As a beginner, I was fascinated by how striking it looked—almost too pretty to cut. That visual contrast alone made the cigar feel special before I even lit it.

But as soon as we made the cut, I noticed the wrapper flaking along the sides. It wasn’t dramatic at first, just a hint of dryness. Once I started smoking, though, the wrapper and even some filler continued to flake, to the point where I found myself spitting out tiny pieces as I went. Not exactly the elegant cigar moment I had pictured.

The draw was also more difficult than I expected. I had to work harder than usual to pull smoke through, and I wasn’t sure if it was my inexperience, the length of the cigar, the dryness—or some combination of all three. Even with a few cigars under my belt, I’m still learning how much the cut, the humidity, and the size can influence the experience.

But here’s the part that kept me going: the flavor was genuinely delicious. The espresso sweetness and creamy finish were exactly what I hoped for. Paired with the tropical cocktail Donovan crafted for me—tequila, agave liqueur, peach liqueur, pineapple juice, and Aperol—the cigar took on this dessert‑like richness that made the moment feel special despite the hiccups.

In the end, the Espresso Cream was both enjoyable and educational. It reminded me that cigars aren’t always perfect, and that’s okay. Every smoke teaches you something—about the cigar, about the ritual, and about your own preferences.

Would I try it again? Absolutely. But next time, I’ll let it rest in my humidor a bit longer and choose a size I’m more comfortable with. This cigar gave me a sweet, flavorful experience wrapped in a very real beginner’s lesson—and that’s part of what makes this journey so fun.

Our Review

M by Macanudo Espresso Cream (Barber Pole)

Summary

The M by Macanudo Espresso Cream, with its striking dual‑wrapper barber‑pole design of Maduro and Natural leaves, offers a sweet, café‑inspired profile that is both approachable and flavorful. As my fourth cigar, it delivered a delicious experience but also highlighted how construction and humidity can dramatically shape a smoke. While the espresso‑cream flavor was consistently enjoyable, the dryness, flaking wrapper, and tight draw made this cigar more challenging than expected for a newer smoker. Still, the core flavor profile was strong enough that I would revisit it—ideally after some time resting in my humidor.

Appearance & First Impressions

The cigar’s barber‑pole wrapper was the first thing that drew me in. The alternating Maduro and Natural leaves created a beautiful spiral pattern that felt almost decorative. It looked luxurious, well‑rolled, and visually inviting—exactly the kind of cigar that makes a beginner feel excited to light up.

Construction & Burn

This is where the experience became more complicated.

  • The wrapper showed signs of dryness immediately after cutting, flaking along the sides.

  • As I smoked, both the wrapper and some filler continued to flake, to the point where I had to repeatedly spit out small pieces.

  • The draw was tight and resistant, requiring more effort than expected.

  • As a newer smoker, I wasn’t sure whether the issue was the cigar’s length, my technique, or the dryness—but it was likely a combination.

These construction issues didn’t ruin the cigar, but they did make the experience less smooth and more labor‑intensive.

Flavor Profile

Despite the construction challenges, the flavor was the highlight.

  • Espresso sweetness from the first draw

  • A creamy, café‑warm finish that stayed consistent

  • No harshness, bitterness, or overpowering spice

  • A dessert‑like quality, especially when paired with a tropical cocktail

The flavor was balanced, aromatic, and exactly what I hoped for from an espresso‑themed cigar.

Body & Strength

The body sat comfortably in the medium range—enough presence to feel substantial, but still gentle and beginner‑friendly. The flavored profile softened the edges, making it easy to enjoy even with the draw issues.

Final Thoughts

The M by Macanudo Espresso Cream is a deliciously flavored cigar with a standout appearance and a warm, sweet profile that’s perfect for newer smokers or anyone who enjoys dessert‑leaning cigars. However, the construction issues—dryness, flaking, and a tight draw—held it back from being a flawless experience.

Would I smoke it again? Yes, but next time I’d let it rest in my humidor to stabilize the humidity and choose a size I’m more comfortable with. This cigar offered both flavor and a valuable learning moment, making it a memorable part of my early cigar journey.
