INCREDIENTS
1 1/2 oz bourbon
3/4 oz espresso
1 oz tart cherry-vanilla syrup
dark chocolate
INSTRUCTIONS
Add all the liquid ingredients to a shaker. Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously until it feels ice-cold and shows frost on the outside (15–30 seconds).
Double strain the shaker's contents into a chilled coupe (without ice).
For the aromatic finishing touch, finely grate the chocolate over the top of the drink.

Instead of reaching for the recommended Jefferson’s Straight Bourbon, we chose the bottle that already carried a story of its own: Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea Rye Double Barrel Rye Whiskey. It felt right — a cocktail inspired by the Black Forest deserved a spirit shaped by wind, waves, and salt air.
As we built the drink, the ingredients came together like a dessert you don’t have to bake: bold espresso, tart cherry‑vanilla syrup, and a bar of 80% dark chocolate waiting to be grated over the top. The moment the shaker frosted over, we knew we were in for something special.
Nose
The first inhale was a beautiful collision of aromas. The rye’s spice rose immediately — warm, peppery, and slightly briny from its time at sea — wrapping itself around the deep, roasted scent of espresso.
