How We Feel About the Spirit

WhistlePig 12 Year Bespoke Barrel Rye – Maple Crème Brûlée Cask | A Dessert-Driven Mission Exclusive Worth the Wait

Written by Nancy Fae for His, Hers & the Good Life

Introduction

Some bottles announce themselves with swagger; others whisper their promise like a secret meant only for those patient enough to listen. Our pre‑ordered WhistlePig 12 Year Bespoke Barrel Rye Finished in Maple Crème Brûlée Casks — Mission Exclusive 2023 — is firmly in the latter camp. It’s a dessert‑leaning rye wrapped in limited‑edition allure, a bottle we won’t meet until October 2026, yet already feels like part of our story.

Jeff and I have a soft spot for bottles that lean into indulgence without losing their backbone. This one, with its maple‑kissed, custard‑warm finishing profile, seems destined for after‑dinner pours, celebratory nights, and those quiet moments when the house settles and the glass becomes the evening’s punctuation mark. Anticipation is half the pleasure, and this bottle is already delivering.

His Take (Jeff)

There’s something about a dessert‑finished rye that hits me right where good whiskey should. I love when a bottle keeps its rye structure but leans into warmth — maple, toasted sugar, that crème brûlée edge that feels like the last bite of dessert. This one sounds like it’s built for slow sipping, the kind of pour you reach for when the night is winding down and you want something that feels earned.

The limited‑edition angle doesn’t hurt either. I like knowing we snagged something special, something that won’t be sitting on every shelf. A 12‑year rye with a dessert finish? That’s a lane I’ll happily stay in. October can’t get here fast enough.

Her Take (Nancy Fae)

I’m already imagining the first pour — how the maple sweetness will rise from the glass, how the custard‑soft vanilla will mingle with oak and spice, how the finish will linger like the last glow of candlelight. Dessert‑leaning bottles are my weakness, especially when they promise depth rather than simple sweetness.

This one feels like a celebration of contrasts: bold rye meeting delicate brûlée, spice meeting silk, tradition meeting whimsy. And the fact that it’s a Mission Exclusive? That just adds a little thrill. I love bottles that feel like they were meant for a moment, and this one already feels like it’s meant for ours.

Closing in the His, Hers & the Good Life Style

His (Jeff)

This bottle is shaping up to be the kind of rye I reach for when I want something comforting but still complex. A dessert finish that doesn’t lose its edge — that’s my kind of pour.

Her (Nancy Fae)

For me, it’s the romance of it: the maple, the brûlée, the anticipation of a bottle that promises warmth and elegance in equal measure. It feels like a treat we’ve earned.

The Good Life

The Good Life is built on shared moments, collected memories, and bottles that become part of our story. This WhistlePig — limited, dessert‑driven, and long‑awaited — fits right in. It’s a reminder that anticipation is joy, indulgence is art, and the best bottles are the ones we savor together.
