About This Spirit from the Maker
Rather than being simply a ‘finished’ whiskey, Yellow Spot is special in that it contains whiskey that has been matured for a full 12 year period in three oak cask types: American bourbon barrels, Spanish sherry butts, and uniquely, Spanish Malaga casks.
The Malaga cask brings an exotic sweet note to the whiskey making it a truly delightful taste experience. Only extremely limited quantities of Yellow Spot have been bottled making it a whiskey to seek out and savour as a true rarity.

How We Feel About the Spirit
Yellow Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
Why We Bought the Bottle
Our journey into the Spot Whiskey family began with Blue Spot, a bottle that instantly earned its place on our shelf with its bold character and memorable depth. It set a tone—if this was what the Spot lineup could deliver, then the rest of the family deserved attention.
So when we came across Yellow Spot at Total Wine in Nashville, it felt like a natural next step. There’s a certain trust that forms when one expression impresses you so thoroughly. Seeing Yellow Spot on the shelf sparked that same curiosity and confidence: If Blue Spot was that good, surely its sister bottle had something worth exploring.
That familiarity, paired with the promise of discovering a different angle on the Spot style, made the decision easy. Into the cart it went.
The Nose
Sweetness rises first—gentle, inviting, and unmistakably fruit‑forward. The apple note comes through clearly, not sharp or tart but rounded and juicy, reminiscent of a Honeycrisp at peak ripeness. That honeyed quality blends seamlessly into the aroma, giving the nose a warm, glowing sweetness rather than anything overly sugary.
As the whiskey opens, more orchard fruit appears.
• Pear adds a soft lift.
• Vanilla threads through the background.
• The overall profile leans bright, fresh, and distinctly Irish.
Tasted blind, the nose reads as approachable and expressive—sweet, fruity, and layered enough to hint at the complexity waiting on the palate.
The Palate and the Finish
The first sip lands with a burst of sweetness, carrying the same orchard‑fruit energy from the nose straight onto the palate. It’s immediate and expressive—one of those moments where you know right away the whiskey is going to be good. The sweetness hits upfront, followed by a wave of fresh fruit that keeps everything lively.
Then the whiskey shifts gears. A peppery spice builds toward the back of the palate, bringing a warming burn that suggests a higher proof. It’s not harsh—just enough heat to add structure and contrast. The progression becomes the defining experience:
• Sweet entry
• Fruity mid‑palate
• Pepper‑spice finish
The texture sits comfortably in the middle. It’s not watery, but it’s not overly creamy either. It coats the palate well, carrying the flavors through without feeling heavy.
The finish is clean and balanced. The peppery burn lingers, but never overwhelms. It leaves behind a final echo of fruit and warmth, tying the whole sip together in a way that feels cohesive and satisfying.

How to Enjoy This Whiskey
🥃 How to Enjoy This Whiskey
Yellow Spot is one of those pours that rewards a little intention. Its personality shifts as it opens, and the balance of sweet fruit and peppery spice gives you a few different ways to experience it.
🌬️ Neat for the Full Orchard‑Fruit Experience
Neat is where Yellow Spot shows its brightest, most expressive side.
• The Honeycrisp‑style apple note on the nose becomes even more vivid.
• The sweet, fruity entry lands cleanly.
• The peppery finish feels warm rather than sharp.
Letting it sit in the glass for a minute or two softens the initial heat and brings more of the honey and pear forward.
🧊 With a Single Cube
A single cube smooths the edges without muting the character.
• The sweetness becomes rounder.
• The fruit notes lift and feel even fresher.
• The peppery finish becomes gentler but still present.
This is a great option if you enjoy the flavor profile but want a slightly softer ride.
💧 A Few Drops of Water
Just a splash can open the aromatics dramatically.
• The vanilla becomes more pronounced.
• The orchard fruit becomes brighter.
• The spice settles into a warm hum rather than a burn.
This approach highlights the layered structure—sweet, fruity, then spicy—without losing the transitions.
🌙 Best Moments to Pour
Yellow Spot fits beautifully into moments where you want something expressive but not overwhelming.
• End‑of‑day pours when you want something sweet, fruity, and comforting
• Tasting nights where the nose alone sparks conversation
• Evenings when you want a whiskey that feels fresh, layered, and easy to enjoy
It’s not a background whiskey. It’s one you sit with, notice, and appreciate as it unfolds.
