A wheat whiskey isn't the same as a wheated bourbon. Wheated bourbon uses wheat as the secondary grain. Straight wheat whiskey uses wheat as the primary — meaning the mash bill is wheat-forward, not corn-forward. The result is rounder and softer than bourbon, with more bread and honey than caramel.
Fresh bread and orchard fruit on the nose. Vanilla cream, light caramel, gentle nuttiness on the palate. Soft oak finish with a clean lift. 67.3% / 134.6 proof. Barrel R013. This is the only barrel of this whiskey. There is no second one.

Our May 2026 PourMore Enthusiast Whiskey of the Month Club delivery arrived with a bottle that stopped us in our tracks — an unreleased single cask straight wheat whiskey from Fallen Barrel House. We had never heard of the producer, which only added to the intrigue. Then the details began to unfold: only one barrel exists, Barrel R-013, aged nine years in a 53-gallon Char 4 white oak barrel from Kelvin Cooperage, and bottled at a formidable 67.3% ABV / 134.6 proof.
A single cask. A wheat-forward mash bill. California-aged. Unreleased. It feels less like a bottle and more like a secret.
We haven’t opened it yet — and that restraint is part of the thrill. The anticipation sits on the shelf with it, growing a little stronger every time we walk past.

How We Will Enjoy This Whisky
When we finally open Barrel R-013, it will be with intention. This is a whiskey that deserves quiet lighting, slow conversation, and a moment that feels worthy of its nine-year journey.
We’ll begin with a neat pour — letting the wheat, honey, and orchard fruit rise from the glass. Then we’ll revisit it with a drop or two of water to coax out the vanilla cream and gentle nuttiness. And because PourMore included the recipe for the Golden Hour Reverie, we’ll absolutely be making it.
Chamomile honey syrup, pear liqueur, Oloroso sherry, walnut bitters — this cocktail reads like golden hour in a glass. We can already picture it: a large clear ice cube catching the light, a thin pear slice resting against the rim, a chamomile flower floating like a quiet flourish.
