His, Hers & the Good Life: Our Night at The Ledges Food & Wine Expo - November 20, 2025
By Nancy Fae
Joint Introduction
When Dean and Stacey Della Pella told us, “You two would love the Food & Wine Expo,” we believed them. They know our rhythm — a good pour, a good plate, and a good moment to tuck into the memory bank. So on November 20th, Jeff and I walked into The Ledges Ballroom with curiosity, empty glasses, and zero expectations.
It was our first time attending the Expo, and the moment we stepped inside — chandeliers glowing, tables lined with bottles like polished gemstones, and the soft hum of people discovering their next favorite wine — we knew we were in for something special. Dean and Stacey were already there, smiling like they knew we were about to have a night.

How the Night Unfolded
The ballroom was arranged like a tasting adventure: each table a new chapter, each vendor ready to pour something worth talking about. The adjoining room held a gorgeous spread of food — cheeses, fruits, pastries, meats, warm dishes — the kind of layout that makes you grateful you arrived hungry. And we did. We filled our plates without hesitation.
We made our way around the room, tasting, comparing, pairing bites with sips, and sharing reactions that ranged from thoughtful nods to wide‑eyed “Oh wow.” Some wines were pleasant surprises. Others were instant favorites. A few were the kind that make you pause mid‑sentence.
Standouts of the night included:
Matthiasson ‘Village’ Cabernet Sauvignon — loved it.
Trip Point Chardonnay — bright and refreshing.
2021 Snowden ‘Brother’s Vineyard’ Cabernet — rich and structured.
Domaine A ‘Lady A’ Sauvignon Blanc — elegant and expressive.
2013 Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon — beautifully aged.
2021 Shafer Relentless Syrah — excellent, bold, unforgettable.
2021 Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon — excellent, layered, and a true showstopper.
Luigi Giordano Barbaresco Cavanna — classic and refined.
But let’s be honest: Shafer came to impress. Both Jeff and I agreed — the 2021 Shafer Relentless Syrah and the 2021 Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon were the stars of the night.
And then came the line of the evening. Someone at our table took a sip of the Hillside Select, paused, and declared, “This does not suck.”
At $335 a bottle, it absolutely should not suck — and thankfully, it didn’t. With its chocolate‑raspberry notes and silky finish, it was the kind of wine that makes you close your eyes for a moment.
But here’s the twist: We enjoyed the wines… and still didn’t buy any bottles. Not for lack of temptation — but sometimes the joy is in the tasting, the comparing, the savoring, and the memory. And this night gave us plenty of that.

Joint Closing — His, Hers & the Good Life
His Final Note (Jeff’s Voice)
I walked out of the Expo feeling like I’d just taken a tour through some of Napa’s greatest hits — without needing to bring any bottles home to prove it. The Shafers were the clear standouts for me, especially the Hillside Select. At $335 a bottle, it better not suck … and it didn’t. I loved comparing notes with Dean, talking shop with the vendors, and finding those pours that make you stop mid‑conversation. Even without buying anything, it was a night well spent — good wine, good company, and plenty to talk about later.
Her Final Note
For me, it was the atmosphere — the glow of the ballroom, the elegance of the displays, the joy of tasting something unexpected. I loved watching Jeff light up when a wine hit just right. I loved the food, the laughter, the people, and the feeling of being part of something special at The Ledges.
The Good Life
The Good Life is built on nights like this — where good friends, good food, and good wine come together effortlessly. Where you walk in curious and walk out inspired. Where a simple “try this” becomes a memory.
Here’s to the Expo, to the pours that surprised us, to the bottles that impressed us, and to the moments that didn’t suck — not even a little.
