Tequila Ocho Anejo - Aged In Old Fitzgerald Bourbon Barrels

Producer/Distiller: Tequila Ocho

Type: Anejo Tequila

Origin: Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico

Story

This special release from Tequila Ocho combines the brand's signature agave-forward style with the influence of prized Old Fitzgerald bourbon barrels sourced from Kentucky. Transported to Arandas for maturation, the casks contribute added richness, caramel depth, and oak complexity while allowing the tequila's estate-driven agave character to remain at the forefront. Bottled at 96 proof, the expression carries added intensity and structure, highlighting the collaboration between two traditions — Kentucky bourbon craftsmanship and highland tequila production. The result is a layered sipping tequila that balances vibrant agave with refined bourbon barrel influence.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with roasted agave, caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak with hints of baking spice. On the palate, sweet cooked agave is layered with butterscotch, light cinnamon, oak, and subtle bourbon-driven richness. The finish is smooth and warming, with lingering caramel, spice, and earthy agave character.

How We Feel About the Spirit

**Tequila Ocho Añejo 2023 Limited Edition

Aged in Old Fitzgerald Bourbon Casks**

A His, Hers & the Good Life Story

Joint Introduction

Our May 2026 PourMore Enthusiast Tequila of the Month Club delivery arrived with the kind of presence that makes you pause mid‑unboxing. We had never heard of Tequila Ocho before this moment, but we had heard of Old Fitzgerald Bourbon. That alone made us lean in a little closer. When we lifted the bottle from the packaging, the weight, the color, the promise of bourbon‑kissed agave … it all felt like discovering a secret chapter in a book we thought we already knew.

We haven’t opened it yet. This one deserves a moment, not a casual Tuesday night pour. And because we love sharing the journey, here is a video of our unboxing so you can experience that first look with us.

His Take (Jeff)

There’s something about a bottle that carries both heritage and experimentation that gets my attention. This one does exactly that. The Old Fitzgerald connection is what hooked me first — those wheated bourbon barrels have a reputation for depth, warmth, and a kind of quiet confidence. Pair that with a tequila producer I’ve never tried, and suddenly I’m curious in a way that feels like standing at the edge of a new adventure.

The bottle itself looks like it knows what it’s doing. Understated but intentional. No gimmicks. Just a promise: “Open me when you’re ready for something layered.” I’m already imagining the first sip — agave up front, bourbon influence humming underneath, and that 96‑proof structure giving it a backbone. This feels like a pour that will reward patience, conversation, and a slow evening.

Her Take (Nancy Fae)

This bottle had me at first glance. There’s a quiet elegance to it — nothing flashy, nothing loud, just a sense of craftsmanship that feels grounded and confident. I love when a bottle looks like it belongs in our Sipping Room before it even gets there.

What intrigues me most is the marriage of traditions: highland agave and Kentucky bourbon barrels. It feels like a cross‑cultural love story — one that respects both sides without overpowering either. I’m expecting warmth, depth, and a little bit of magic in the glass. And because we haven’t opened it yet, I’m savoring the anticipation. Some bottles are meant to be waited for, and this is one of them.

Joint Closing — His, Hers & the Good Life

His:   Some bottles are meant to be collected. Others are meant to be experienced. This one feels like both.

Hers:   A beautiful bottle is one thing. A beautiful story inside the bottle is another. I’m ready for both.

The Good Life:   It’s not just about what you pour. It’s about who you share it with, the moment you choose, and the memories that follow. Here’s to the next chapter.

How We Will Enjoy This Tequila

When we finally open this bottle, it will be with intention. We’ll pour it neat first — no ice, no distractions — just to let the agave and bourbon‑barrel influence introduce themselves properly. After that, we’ll try it over a single large cube to see how the oak, caramel, and cacao notes stretch and soften.

And because PourMore included a cocktail recipe that sounds too good to ignore, we’ll also be making the Highland Gold Rush. The combination of honey syrup, apricot liqueur, lemon, and bitters feels like the perfect way to showcase the bourbon‑aged character of this tequila.

Check out the recipe in the blog so you can make it with us.
