About This Spirit from the Maker
American Oak
OAK SERIES
American Oak is the first blend in the Oak Series, an innovative double oak technique where Dixon inserts chains of charred American oak into barrels with a moderate rye bourbon mash bill of 18%. Dixon will match the profile of each batch for consistent taste and character, providing an everyday offering. American Oak moves from sweet, rich caramel and toffee on the front, to savory roasted nutty notes in the middle, finishing with a lingering mild spice. It is very approachable and perfect for whiskey cocktails.
TASTING NOTES

How We Feel About the Spirit
2XO American Oak: A Bottle That Made Us Laugh, Then Earned Its Place on the Shelf
Some bottles enter a collection because of their pedigree. Others arrive because of their rarity. And then there are the bottles that walk through the door simply because they make you stop, smirk, and say, “Well… that’s hilarious.” Our 2XO American Oak was absolutely one of those.
😂 A Bottle Bought for the Joke, Kept for the Pour
The front of the bottle features an etched image of President Trump holding up two middle fingers with the phrase “You Missed.” Politics aside, the design felt like a snapshot of the cultural moment—loud, irreverent, and unapologetically cheeky. It was the kind of bottle you buy because it makes you laugh and because it feels like a little piece of Americana in its own chaotic way.
We grabbed it for the humor.
We kept it because the whiskey inside turned out to be genuinely good.
That combination—novelty on the outside, craftsmanship on the inside—makes it a perfect conversation starter in the sipping room.
🍬 Nose: Candy Shop Warmth with a Playful Twist
The nose opens with a classic bourbon sweetness: caramel, vanilla, and brown sugar forming a warm, inviting base. But the moment you linger, the profile takes a fun turn.
• Fruity bubblegum — soft, sweet, and nostalgic, like the first pop of a freshly unwrapped piece.
• Candy sweetness at the bottom of the glass — concentrated and syrupy, almost like mixed sweets warming in the sun.
• Butter popcorn — a buttery, savory-sweet layer that adds depth and keeps the nose from leaning too sugary.
It’s a nose that feels both familiar and playful—candy shop meets classic bourbon—with the bubblegum and popcorn notes giving it a signature personality.
🔥 Palate: Sweet Start, High-Proof Energy, and a Peppery Finish
The first sip makes its proof known immediately. Even without checking the label, the whiskey announces itself with a lively tongue-tingling heat that clearly sits above 90 proof.
The journey across the palate unfolds in stages:
• Sweet opening — soft and rounded, echoing the caramelized warmth from the nose.
• Proof-driven buzz — a tingling energy that spreads across the tongue.
• Pepper spice — a wave of black pepper and warming spice that builds slowly and steadily.
• Lingering burn — settling at the back of the palate and hanging on long after the sip.
• Fruity citrus flashes — bright notes that peek through the heat and keep the profile lifted.
There’s a moment where the spice and burn almost mimic a rye-like character, even if the mash bill isn’t disclosed. The peppery crescendo and long finish give it that bold, assertive edge.
🌾 Finish: Warm, Spiced, and Persistent
The finish leans heavily into the pepper spice, carrying a warm, lingering burn that stays anchored at the back of the palate. The sweetness never fully disappears—it just steps aside to let the spice take the lead. The result is a finish that’s long, warm, and memorable.
📝 Final Thoughts
2XO American Oak surprised us in the best way. What started as a novelty purchase—an etched bottle that made us laugh—turned into a pour worth savoring. The nose is playful and candy‑sweet, the palate is bold and high‑energy, and the finish delivers a satisfying spice that lingers.
It’s a reminder that sometimes the best bottles aren’t the ones you plan for—they’re the ones that catch you off guard, make you smile, and then earn their place in the rotation.

🥃 How to Enjoy This Whiskey
2XO American Oak is bold, high‑proof, and layered with sweetness and spice, which means the way you drink it can shape the entire experience. This is a whiskey that rewards intention—letting the proof settle, giving the aromatics room to open, and pacing the sip so the transitions have time to unfold.
🥄 Neat for the Full Experience
Neat is where this whiskey shines. The high proof brings energy, but the sweetness on the front end and the citrus notes in the mid‑palate show best when nothing dilutes them.
• Let it breathe — a minute or two in the glass softens the initial heat and amplifies the caramel, bubblegum, and butter‑popcorn notes.
• Use a wide‑bowl glass — something that lets the aromatics expand and gives you access to that candy‑sweet bottom‑of‑the‑glass moment.
• Sip slowly — the pepper spice builds over time, and the finish lingers. Giving each sip space helps you appreciate the transitions.
🧊 With a Single Cube
A single ice cube changes the profile without muting it. As the cube melts, the proof softens and the citrus notes become more pronounced.
• Sweetness becomes rounder
• Pepper spice becomes gentler but still present
• Fruity notes lift forward
This is a great option if you enjoy high‑proof whiskey but prefer a slightly smoother ride.
💧 A Few Drops of Water
Just a splash can open up the nose dramatically. The bubblegum and candy notes become brighter, and the butter‑popcorn undertone becomes more noticeable.
• Aromatics bloom
• Heat softens
• Sweetness becomes more playful
This is ideal if you want to explore the whiskey’s more whimsical notes.
🌙 Best Moments to Pour
Because of its proof, personality, and story‑driven bottle design, this whiskey fits beautifully into:
• End‑of‑day pours when you want something bold and expressive
• Tasting nights where the nose alone becomes a conversation
• Moments when you want a pour with personality—the bottle itself is a talking point
It’s not a background whiskey. It’s one you sit with, talk about, and savor.
