How We Feel About the Spirit

New Riff, New Reign: The Bottled‑In‑Bond Bourbon Wearing the Crown

Written by Nancy Fae for His, Hers & the Good Life

Introduction

There are bottles you buy because they’re classics, bottles you buy because they’re curiosities, and then — every once in a while — there’s a bottle you buy because it just won the whole world. Our New Riff Bottled in Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey came home with us from Total Wine Nashville for one simple reason: it was crowned World’s Best Bourbon at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards.

And in today’s American whiskey landscape, where hype often outpaces reality, the fact that we snagged a world champion for $37.99 feels like the kind of plot twist the Sipping Room lives for. We haven’t opened it yet, but the anticipation is half the fun. A high‑rye Bottled in Bond bourbon with a reputation for savory spice? Yes, please.

We’re already planning a blind taste test with other Bottled in Bond contenders — because if you’re going to judge a world winner, you might as well make it interesting.

His Take (Jeff)

I’ll admit it: I’m intrigued. Any bourbon that walks into the ring with a 65/30/5 mash bill and a world title deserves a fair fight. The high‑rye angle alone tells me this isn’t trying to be a sweet, easy sipper — it’s coming in with elbows out, ready to show off some structure.

But what really gets me is the Bottled in Bond promise. No shortcuts. No chill filtration. Four honest years in toasted and charred oak. It’s the kind of straightforward craftsmanship I appreciate.

I haven’t tasted it yet, but I’m expecting a bourbon that doesn’t whisper. I’m expecting one that talks back.

Her Take (Nancy Fae)

I’m still learning my way around flavor notes — my palate is enthusiastic, not expert — but even I can feel the energy around this bottle. There’s something charming about a bourbon that wins a global award yet sits humbly on a shelf for under forty dollars. It feels like discovering a future favorite before the rest of the world catches up.

I’m curious about the spice everyone talks about. High‑rye bourbons tend to have a little personality, and I’m ready to see what kind of personality this one brings. Will I be able to pick out the rye? The oak? The magic? We’ll find out together.

Closing — His, Hers & the Good Life

His (Jeff)

This bottle feels like a reminder that great bourbon doesn’t need a luxury price tag. I’m ready to line it up in a blind tasting and see if the world title holds up in our Sipping Room.

Her (Nancy Fae)

I love that this bottle has a story before we’ve even poured a drop. A world winner, a Nashville find, a Bottled in Bond beauty — this is exactly the kind of bottle that makes our collection feel intentional and fun.

The Good Life

The Good Life is about savoring the moments that surprise you — like finding a world‑class bourbon at a weeknight price. This bottle fits right in: honest, celebrated, and waiting patiently for its debut in our Sipping Room lineup.

How to Enjoy

  • Blind Bottled‑in‑Bond Showdown: Line it up against other BiB bourbons to see how the world winner stacks up.

  • Neat First, Always: A 100‑proof Bottled in Bond deserves an honest first impression.

  • Then Try It With a Drop of Water: Open up the rye spice and see what changes.

  • Old Fashioned Test Drive: If the high‑rye backbone shines, it’ll make a stellar cocktail.

  • Sipping Room Social: Share it with friends — world champions are meant to be enjoyed, not hoarded.
