A Derby Soirée to Remember: Our First Cooper’s Hawk Member Dinner Event in Madison
By Nancy Fae (Her), with Jeff (His) and Ashley (Daughter)
There are nights that feel like they were designed to be savored—slowly, warmly, with good wine in hand and good people at your table. Tuesday, May 19, 2026, was one of those nights. Madison’s brand‑new Cooper’s Hawk location hosted its very first Wine Club Member Dinner Event, and we were lucky enough to be part of the inaugural crowd.
Jeff and I walked in with our daughter Ashley, expecting a fun evening. What we got was a full‑on Derby‑themed soirée—elegant tables, candlelit ambience, generous pours, and a menu that read like a love letter to Southern indulgence.
The room itself was beautifully decorated—pearled runners, soft candlelight, and table settings that felt like a special occasion before the first bite ever hit the table.

And no, we didn’t dress up in Derby hats or bowties.
Would it have been fun? Absolutely.
Are we that confident yet? Not even close.
But we admired the spirit from the comfort of our regular clothes.
The Welcome: A Kentucky Sweet Tea Cocktail & New Friends
The evening began with the Kentucky Sweet Tea Cocktail, which tasted like a Southern front porch in a glass—easygoing, nostalgic, and Derby‑ready.

Our tablemates were two sisters, Candy and Rita, who were as delightful as the cocktails. Candy is pescatarian and had called ahead for substitutions, which Cooper’s Hawk handled thoughtfully—though a few dishes did get swapped between the sisters. We all laughed it off, the way strangers do when they’re becoming fast friends.

The Staff: Warm, Polished, and Proud
General Manager Rebecca, celebrating 12 years with Cooper’s Hawk, welcomed us with the kind of confidence that tells you the night is in good hands.
Our servers, Gabby and Jade, were absolute gems—attentive, warm, and on top of every detail. The kitchen and wait staff were introduced and applauded, which I loved. It set the tone: this wasn’t just a dinner. It was a celebration of the people who make the experience.
And speaking of thoughtful service—Ashley’s tree nut allergy was handled with care. Dishes were swapped, double‑checked, and confirmed without us ever having to ask twice.

Bread Course: Black Pepper Cheddar Biscuit with Clover Honey Drizzle
Let me tell you… This biscuit deserves its own paragraph.
Flaky, peppery, cheesy, and kissed with honey—this was the kind of bread course that makes you pause mid‑conversation and say, “Oh wow.”
Jeff and I both agreed: if they sold these by the dozen, we’d be in trouble.

First Course: Bacon‑Wrapped Shrimp & Rosé Pairing
The bacon‑wrapped shrimp arrived perched on creamy pimento cheese grits, drizzled with sweet bell pepper chimichurri and a Jack Daniel’s BBQ glaze.
It was smoky, sweet, savory, and Southern in all the right ways.
The Rosé pairing was bright and refreshing—just enough acidity to cut through the richness. Jeff called it “a perfect first‑course wine,” and I had to agree.
Second Course: Grilled Heirloom Pork Ribeye & Les Petites Wine
The star of the night was the entrée: Grilled heirloom pork ribeye over crushed fingerling potatoes and spring vegetable burgoo, finished with scallion oil.
Tender. Flavorful. Comforting without being heavy.
The pairing was Les Petites, Cooper’s Hawk’s May 2026 Wine of the Month—and fun twist: Ashley won a bottle during the surprise drawings. Three chairs in the room had signs taped underneath, and our girl had one. She lit up like she’d won the Derby itself.
Les Petites was a lovely pairing—soft, fruit‑forward, and elegant. A wine you could sip all evening.
Third Course: Derby Bourbon Ball & Bourbon Ball Cocktail
Dessert was a Derby Bourbon Ball—a chocolate pecan cake with Woodford Reserve toffee mousse and vanilla anglaise.
Because of Ashley’s allergy, they swapped hers for a nut‑free option without hesitation.
The Bourbon Ball cocktail was decadent, creamy, and dessert‑worthy all on its own. Jeff called it “dangerously smooth,” which is Jeff‑speak for “I could drink three of these if someone doesn’t stop me.”

The Atmosphere: Elegant, Warm, and Derby‑Charmed
As you can see from the pictures throughout this post, the room glowed with soft candlelight, polished glassware, and beautifully plated dishes—everything you want from a Derby‑themed dinner. The ambience was refined but relaxed, the kind of setting that invites you to linger and enjoy the moment. The photos capture it perfectly: the table settings, the cocktails, the courses, and the energy of a room full of people excited to be part of Madison’s very first Cooper’s Hawk member dinner.
Final Thoughts: A Night Worth Savoring
Between the food, the wine, the service, and the company, the Derby Soirée was everything we hoped for and more.
We left full, happy, and already talking about the next event. (Which, yes—we’re already booked for June.)
Cooper’s Hawk made a strong first impression with their Madison member dinners, and if this soirée is any indication, we’re in for a year of delicious evenings.
**Until next time…
Here’s to His, Hers, & The Good Life.**
