How We Feel About the Spirit

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select Tennessee Whiskey

Written by Nancy Fae

Joint Introduction

If you’ve followed our Jack Daniel’s adventures, you already know we dedicated an entire shelf in the Sipping Room to Tennessee’s most iconic whiskey. It’s Jeff’s heritage, my indulgence, and our shared nod to the good things that come from the Volunteer State.

So when I spotted a baby 50 ml bottle of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select Tennessee Whiskey, I didn’t hesitate. That stately square silhouette, the confident black label, the way it looked like a pocket-sized executive — straight into the cart it went.

Months later, while shopping online at Total Wine, I tried to buy its full-sized 750 ml match. Instead, I accidentally bought the Single Barrel Select Barrel Proof — a beautiful bottle, yes, but not the intended one and definitely pricier. And with the Jack shelf already full, our little 50 ml Single Barrel Select remains mateless for now. A tiny monarch without a throne.

One day we’ll drink enough Jack to make room for its companion. Until then, it sits proudly among its Tennessee siblings, waiting for its moment.

His Take (Jeff’s Voice)

There’s something about this little bottle that makes me grin every time I see it. Maybe it’s the shape — square, sturdy, unmistakably Jack. Maybe it’s the black label that feels like a tuxedo on a miniature gentleman. Or maybe it’s the fact that it reminds me of home.

Single Barrel Select has always struck me as the refined cousin in the Jack family. The one who shows up with a firm handshake and a story worth hearing. Even in 50 ml form, it carries that same presence.

Sure, it’s missing its 750 ml partner, but I kind of like that it stands alone. It’s a reminder that even small things can have big character. And one day, when we finally make room, I’ll enjoy seeing the two side by side—like a father and son ready for a night out.

Her Take (Nancy Fae’s Voice)

I adore this little bottle more than I expected. It’s charming, almost cute, but with a seriousness that keeps it from being kitschy. The square-like shape feels architectural, the black label feels dressed for an evening gala, and the whole thing looks like it should be sitting on a mahogany desk with a fountain pen nearby.

I laugh every time I think about my accidental purchase of the Barrel Proof instead of the intended 750 ml Single Barrel Select. It was one of those “click first, realize later” moments. And with the Jack shelf already bursting at the seams, our tiny bottle remains a bachelor.

But I love that it’s part of our collection. It’s a reminder of our whiskey adventures, our shared humor, and the way even a small bottle can spark a whole story.

Joint Closing — His, Hers & The Good Life

His (Jeff)

This bottle may be small, but it’s got Tennessee pride packed into every milliliter. It’s a reminder of where I come from and why Jack will always have a place in our home.

Hers (Nancy Fae)

To me, it’s a symbol of our collecting journey—full of charm, mishaps, and moments that make us smile. It’s a tiny treasure with a big personality.

The Good Life

And together, this little Single Barrel Select fits perfectly into our Good Life because it represents what we love most: stories, shared experiences, and the joy of building a collection that feels like us.

How to Enjoy

Even though our 50 ml bottle is staying sealed for now, here’s how we’d enjoy its full-sized counterpart:

  • Neat in a Glencairn   Let the caramel, spice, and fruit notes open slowly. This whiskey rewards patience.

  • With a Single Ice Sphere   Softens the edges and highlights the warm caramel richness.

  • In a Single Barrel Old Fashioned   A refined twist on a classic—bold enough to stand up to bitters, smooth enough to shine through.

  • Paired with a Quiet Evening   This is a contemplative pour. Best enjoyed when the house is calm and the night feels generous.
