About This Spirit from the Maker
Oregon Spirit Bottled in Bond Bourbon Whiskey
The Bottled In Bond Act of 1897 was created to regulate the quality of American whiskeys. Before this act was passed, whiskey had few regulatory guidelines and was often adulterated with additives and colorants.
After the act was passed, distilleries could label their whiskey as Bottled In Bond if it met specific criteria.
American Whiskey has of course become far more regulated since 1897. Present day Bottled In Bond whiskeys use the term to signify a true grain to bottle product. Every Oregon Spirit Bottled In Bond barrel is carefully selected by our distillers, and is bottled and stamped with its unique barrel code to showcase what makes that particular barrel a part of our single barrel program.
Our bottle came from Barrel Number 0806#11.

How We Feel About the Spirit
Oregon Spirit Bottled in Bond Bourbon Whiskey: A Single‑Barrel Surprise From the Pacific Northwest
Some bottles earn your attention before you ever take a sip. That was the case during a recent visit to our favorite Total Wine in Nashville, where Oregon Spirit Distillers had a tasting table set up in the aisle. Their reps, Gary Weber & Sue Horn, weren’t just pouring samples — they were beaming as they talked about their process: Cascade mountain water, four Oregon‑grown grains, and distillers who stay hands‑on from grain to glass.
That pride shows up in the bottle, especially in their Bottled in Bond Bourbon Whiskey — the one that unexpectedly became Jeff’s favorite pour of the day.

What Makes It Bottled in Bond?
Oregon Spirit follows the historic 1897 Bottled in Bond Act to the letter:
One distiller, one distillation season
A minimum of four years aging in bonded warehouses
Bottled at 100 proof
No additives, no shortcuts
And in this case, each release is a single‑barrel expression
That last detail matters — because single barrels carry personality. They’re shaped by where they sit in the rickhouse, how they age, and the micro‑environment around them. It’s part science, part magic, and part gamble.
Jeff’s Tasting Experience (“His” Perspective)
Jeff went into the tasting expecting to prefer the rye — he almost always does. But the Bottled in Bond Bourbon stopped him in his tracks.
Nose: Classic Bourbon Warmth
“Honey, vanilla, caramel, oak — all the familiar notes you want on the nose,” he said. “It’s warm, inviting, and balanced.”
Palate: The Chocolate‑Coffee Moment
What sealed it for him was the palate.
“What really got me was the long finish — chocolate, coffee, and this layered sweetness that just kept going. For a 100‑proof Bottled in Bond, the heat is there, but it’s not overpowering. It’s smooth, steady, and really well done.”
For someone who typically leans rye, that’s saying something.
Finish: Long, Sweet, and Memorable
The finish carried those chocolate and coffee notes long after the sip — the kind of lingering warmth that makes you pause and appreciate what’s happening.
A Word About Single Barrels (From Jeff’s Practical Side)
Jeff’s only caution — and it’s a fair one — is the nature of single barrels.
“Sometimes you have to be careful with single barrels. Depending on where the barrel sat in the rickhouse, the heat, the aging conditions — the bottle you buy might taste a little different from the sample you tried. But the one I tasted was really good, so I’m hoping the bottle I brought home hits the same way.”
It’s the honest truth about single‑barrel whiskey: the charm is in the variation.
Final Thoughts: A Bourbon With Oregon Character and Real Craft Behind It
Oregon Spirit’s Bottled in Bond Bourbon Whiskey delivers:
A classic, comforting nose
A palate defined by chocolate, coffee, and long‑lasting sweetness
A balanced 100‑proof heat
The individuality of a true single‑barrel release
Craftsmanship rooted in Oregon grains and Cascade mountain water
Jeff walked in expecting to crown the rye as his favorite — but walked out with the bourbon instead. That alone speaks volumes.
