A world blend combining malt and grain whiskies from Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Canada, and the U.S., this is a busy, multilayered whisky. The nose has grilled orange, floral notes, fruity hard candy, rose water, fresh-baked bread, an almost yeasty note, wood spice, pastry, and firework smoke. Juicy orange flavors, with smoke, chocolate, cinnamon, peppercorn, and maltiness, then hazelnut, caramel, and ground almond to finish.

Introduction
Some bottles enter your collection with a story already wrapped around them, and our Suntory World Whisky AO is one of those unexpected treasures. When we began building our Sipping Room, we wanted representation from every corner of the whisky world — each shelf level, each region, each personality. AO stood out early on because it blends five whisky nations into one bottle: Ireland, Scotland, America, Canada, and Japan. And when we saw it carried a 90 rating from Whisky Advocate, it immediately earned a spot on our “must-find” list.
But the way it found us is what makes it special. We were passing through Tokyo on a layover, on our way to the Philippines where the real stretch of our travels would begin. In that little Seven-Eleven tucked inside the airport, Ashley spotted the bottle first — her bottle-watching instincts sharper than ever. I hesitated, imagining myself carrying a full 700 ml bottle through multiple flights and the start of a long trip. Ashley, ever the problem-solver, offered to carry it in her backpack. We settled on the 350 ml size, a perfect compromise and a perfect memory.
We haven’t opened it yet, but its presence already feels like a promise — one we’ll honor with a blind tasting across all five whisky regions it represents.

AO feels like a challenge in the best way. Five regions in one bottle? That’s not just blending — that’s ambition. I like that it doesn’t pretend to be a single-note whisky. It’s a world tour in a glass, and I’m curious to see how those personalities show up when we finally pour it.
Finding it in a Tokyo airport convenience store adds a layer of charm. It’s the kind of bottle you don’t plan on buying, but it finds you anyway. I’m especially excited for the blind tasting. I want to see if I can pick out the Irish softness, the Scottish smoke, the American sweetness, the Canadian rye spice, and the Japanese elegance. AO feels like a bottle that will make me think, and I love that.

AO feels like a little blue compass sitting on our shelf, pointing toward all the places we’ve been and all the places we still want to go. I love that it’s a blend of five whisky cultures, each with its own climate, craft, and soul. It’s the kind of bottle that reminds me why we started the Sipping Room in the first place: to explore, to learn, to savor, and to share.
Ashley’s enthusiasm made the purchase irresistible. There’s something sweetly symbolic about her carrying it through the airport — almost like she was carrying a piece of our family’s whisky journey. I’m excited for the blind tasting, not just for the flavors but for the conversation it will spark. AO feels like a bottle that invites storytelling, and that’s my favorite kind of pour.
