How We Feel About the Spirit
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
By Nancy Fae
Joint Introduction
When we started building our Sipping Room, we knew a few bottles would become permanent fixtures — anchors of the collection. Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 was the first no‑brainer. Jeff grew up in Tennessee, so having Jack represented on the shelf wasn’t just a choice; it was a nod to home, heritage, and the unmistakable comfort of a Tennessee classic.
One afternoon at the Class Six store on Redstone Arsenal, we were rolling along with Old No. 7 in the cart when a bottle stopped us in our tracks — Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select Barrel Proof. Stately. Elevated. A bottle that looked like it had something important to say. Jeff and I exchanged that look couples give when they both know the answer before the question is asked. We wanted a more elevated Jack. Into the cart it went.
Months later, we added the 375 ml bottle from Total Wine to pair with the 750 ml. And then — because online shopping sometimes humbles us, I accidentally bought another 750 ml thinking it matched a 50 ml Single Barrel Select we already had. Rookie mistake. But now we have plenty of Barrel Proof to share with friends and family, and honestly … that feels like the Good Life.
His Take (Jeff’s Voice)
There’s something about Barrel Proof that feels like Jack Daniel’s dressed up for a night out. Old No. 7 is the familiar handshake — steady, reliable, part of my Tennessee DNA. Barrel Proof, though? That’s the firm handshake with a little extra pressure. It’s bold without being brash, smooth without losing its edge, and full of the kind of character you only get when whiskey comes straight from the barrel.
The bottle itself looks like it belongs on a mahogany shelf in a study lined with leather-bound books. It’s the kind of whiskey you pour when you want to savor — not rush. I like that it’s strong, but not overpowering. It reminds me of home, but with a little more swagger.
Her Take (Nancy Fae’s Voice)
Barrel Proof is the kind of bottle that makes you pause — not because it’s intimidating, but because it’s intriguing. It has presence. When I first saw it, I thought, This is Jack Daniel’s, but elevated. The kind of elevated that belongs in our Sipping Room, where every bottle tells a story.
I love how varied it can be from barrel to barrel — how each one feels like its own little adventure. And yes, I bought an extra bottle by accident, but honestly, I’m not mad about it. It’s a bottle that deserves to be shared, and now we have enough to pour generously when friends and family come over. Barrel Proof feels like a celebration of boldness, warmth, and Tennessee charm.
Joint Closing — His, Hers & the Good Life
His (Jeff):
Barrel Proof is the kind of whiskey I reach for when I want something with backbone. It’s Tennessee heritage turned up a notch, and it earns its place on the shelf every time I pour it.
Hers (Nancy Fae):
This bottle makes me smile every time I see it—partly because of its stately beauty, partly because of my accidental overstock, and mostly because it brings a richer, deeper Jack Daniel’s experience into our home.
The Good Life:
Barrel Proof fits our Good Life because it’s bold, beautiful, and meant to be shared. It elevates the familiar, celebrates our Tennessee roots, and reminds us that sometimes the best stories come from the bottles we didn’t plan on buying twice.

How to Enjoy
Neat: The best way to appreciate its full-proof character — warm, bold, and layered.
With a Drop of Water: Opens up the vanilla and toasted oak notes beautifully.
On a Large Ice Sphere: Softens the intensity without losing the richness.
Paired With Good Company: This bottle shines when shared — especially with folks who appreciate a whiskey that doesn’t hold back.
Slow Sips, Long Conversations: Barrel Proof isn’t a rush-through whiskey. It’s a settle-in-and-enjoy whiskey.
